My "suck it up" list for my kids

So I don't know what inspired it...actually I do...it was when I was pullin into the parking lot and realized how i never would have made the turn without powersteering when this thought wandered into my mind. I didn't have power steering till I was 28....and then the list EVOLVED.
So I stared early...I don't have kids but when I do...I have a whole list of "suck it ups" or "I had it worse then you" all planned out. Here is the list. Feel free to add some of your! LOL

I didnt have ac or powersteering till 28
I didn't have a cell phone till I was 26
I wasn't allowed to drive till I could change the oil
I didn't get my drivers license till I was 17 cuz we could only afford to have one teenager on insurance
Didn't kiss till I was 19
My Dad (aka stake president) interviewed/intimidated all my dates
Didn't get my braces till sophmore year and wore them all through the rest o high school
My Dad bought all my basketball shoes 1-2 sizes too big cuz he was conviced I would "grow into them by the end of the year." I didn't grow till I was out of highschool
We got new clothes ONCE a year b4 school
We didn't have sprinkler system. We had to move sprinklers every half hour around our 1 acre lot
We had to hand wax the van every year
I cleaned behind to door handles with a toothbrush on the cars
Pressure washed the driveway....in the rain or snow...down to the road (a good quarter mile long driveway)
My parents said I "didn't have acne" so I never got to see a dermotologist..till I was 28
Swept a parking lot and stocked a cooler for money when I was about 10
When I was 12 I learned to run the register but my older sister was better at it so I still had to sweep parking lot
If we didn't put our bags in our rooms after school Dad THREW them off the deck. Papers flew everywhere and were often subject to sprinklers.
I was allowed to have ONE fried over a MONTH!
We were allowed to have a friends over for a birthday party every other year
My Mom washed my hair till I was 8 or 12 (help me Kris). She didn't think I was capable of "doing a good job."

fixed

SO here is the jewelery box that I bought not to long ago off ksl. Killer deal!

I took it home and painted it..but I didn't like it..so I have recently fixed it again.

And here is the final result. I downtoned the paint and added a little wooden embellishment atop to make it look older. I also taught myself how to paint distressed. This was the first time I tried it and I am just so darn proud of how is turned out. To see just how cool the paint looks double click on it. Big improvement And NOW I love it.

Life In A Jar

I am not much of a reader..but this book is one that I want to read really bad. "Life in a Jar." It is about Irena Sedler. Totally fascinating. Here is a few little facts about her and the reason I want to read the book. Also on my list of "to learn abouts" is the name Sophie School. Also a huge revolter during the holocaust.

Irena and the ten who went with her into the ghetto, used many, many methods to smuggle children out. There were five main means of escape: 1- using an ambulance a child could be taken out hidden under the stretcher. 2 - escape through the courthouse. 3 - a child could be taken out using the sewer pipes or other secret underground passages. 4- A trolley could carry out children hiding in a sack, in a trunk, a suitcase or something similar. 5 - if a child could pretend to be sick or was acutally very ill, it could be legally removed using the ambulance. ****Irena did use a dog on occasion, but very few times out of the many rescues. Also, the number of babies saved was small in relation to the total number of children rescued.
There was a church next to the ghetto, but the entrance leading to it was "sealed" by the Germans. If a child could speak good Polish and rattle off some Christian prayers it could be smuggled in through the "sealed" entrance and later taken to the Aryan side. This was very dangerous since Germans often used a rouse to trick the Poles and then arrest Jolanta/Irena documented on the strips of paper she had buried, as well as where the child was taken in the first phase of its escape.
Irena (code name Jolanta) was arrested on October 20, 1943. When arrested she felt almost liberated. She was placed in the notorious Piawiak prison, where she was constantly questioned and tortured. During the questioning she had her legs and feet fractured.
The German who interrogated her was young, very stylish and spoke perfect Polish. He wanted the names of the Zegota leaders, their addresses and the names of others involved. Irena fed him the version that she and her collaborators had prepared in the event they were captured. The German held up a folder with information of places, times and persons who had informed on her. She received a death sentence. She was to be shot. Unbeknown to her, Zegota had bribed the German executioner who helped her escape. On the following day the Germans loudly proclaimed her execution. Posters were put up all over the city with the news that she was shot. Irena read the posters herself.
During the remaining years of the war, she lived hidden, just like the children she rescued. Irena was the only one who knew where the children were to be found. When the war was finally over, she dug up the bottles and began the job of finding the children and trying to find a living parent.
Almost all the parents of the children Irena saved, died at the Treblinka death camp.

Finally!!

Just gotta say that I FINALLY got my guitar. I have wanted one for years and years and years becuase I am such a country feen and love and adore this instrument.

ANyhow I have ALWAYS wanted to learn to play but have always had to put it on the backburner for school. I have always promised myself when I finished school I could get myself one. That momment finally arrived and can I just say she is beautiful!! I gotta say that the fact that i got a little money from grandma Mc helped me out here. But I think part o the reason I love country music is cuz although my Grandpa died when I was pretty young I always remember him singin some old western song. So I always think of him when I hear a good twang. I am so excited!!
